Education - Minimum Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A valid New Mexico Public Education Department K-12 Special Education Teaching License
- A demonstrated philosophy that all students can and will learn
- Excellent attendance record
- Excellent communication skills- oral and written
- Positive interpersonal skills
- Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience
- Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the Board of Education
- Exhibit skills to foster positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community
- Willingness and demonstrated abilities conducive to a continuous quest for quality education
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Work with students one-on-one or in small groups to affect behavior changes
- Evaluate students' needs and provide interventions to redirect behavior
- Implement behavioral programs designed to make positive and appropriate changes
- Assess crisis situations and defuse situations using conflict resolution and crisis management techniques
- Reinforce appropriate behaviors and redirect negative behaviors
- Provide values clarification including rules, expectations and consequences
- Implement consequences for inappropriate behavior
- With proper training, physically restrain students if necessary for safety
- Communication/Consultation
- Work with staff to develop an effective program of activities for changing unacceptable behavior of
students
- Provide information to parents, guardians, or other care providers concerning action of student
- Ensure consistency of behavioral standards by coordinating with appropriate student contacts
- Monitor physical and emotional changes in students
- Consult with teachers, support staff, and administrators to obtain information and advice on prior behavior problems, and provide information as necessary concerning behavioral concerns

WORK SCHEDULE: 184 Day Contract
