JOB DESCRIPTION:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Current New Mexico Public Education Department Early Childhood or K-8 license depending upon grade level(s) being taught.
Position Summary:
An elementary school teacher is responsible for planning and implementing lessons that encourage students’ intellectual, emotional, and social growth. The teacher will guide students in core subjects such as reading, math, science, and social studies, while creating a safe and inclusive learning environment. Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues is essential, along with ongoing assessment and adaptation of teaching methods to meet students' needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Instructional Planning & Delivery
- Develop engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that cater to the varied learning styles of students.
- Use interactive teaching methods to encourage active learning and participation.
- Assess and track student progress, providing feedback to students and parents.
- Classroom Management
- Maintain a respectful and organized classroom environment.
- Implement school policies and procedures to support students’ positive behavior and safety.
- Address student behavior issues promptly and effectively, collaborating with support staff when necessary.
- Student Support & Communication
- Provide individual support to students who need additional help, ensuring each student is encouraged to achieve their full potential.
- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Regularly communicate with parents about students’ progress and any concerns or achievements.
- Professional Development
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Stay updated on best practices in elementary education and contribute to curriculum development.
- Other Duties
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and other activities.
- Assist in organizing school events, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility & Flexibility
- Ability to move around the classroom and school grounds frequently to engage with students and oversee activities.
- Occasionally crouch, bend, reach, and lift instructional materials (up to 25 lbs) to set up or modify the learning environment.
- Stamina & Endurance
- Stand or walk for prolonged periods, particularly during classroom instruction, outdoor activities, and supervision during recess and other school events.
- Capable of maintaining energy and focus for extended periods, as elementary teaching often requires continuous engagement.
- Manual Dexterity
- Able to handle, feel, and manipulate teaching materials, such as books, paper, and art supplies.
- Use basic technology (computers, projectors, smartboards) and office equipment.
- Visual & Auditory Requirements
- Good visual acuity to observe students' behaviors and engagement and read educational materials and small print.
- Able to hear and respond to student questions and communications clearly, even in noisy environments.
- Speech & Communication
- Clear speech ability to instruct and communicate with students and colleagues effectively.
- Able to project voice when speaking in front of a classroom or in large spaces, such as an assembly.

WORK SCHEDULE: 184 Day Contract
